Douglas Eldridge Collection

About this Collection

This collection consists of selected materials from the Doug Eldridge Collection, mostly items related to the United Community Corporation and Eldridge's work in the community. Born in New York, Eldridge was a reporter for the Newark News reporting on civil rights and urban affairs from 1960-1972. Later, Eldridge worked for the City of Newark. Eldridge was involved with United Community Corporation from its founding in 1964. In this collection you can read some of Eldridge's interviews United Community Corp. staff like Cyril Tyson and Timothy Still. Also in the collections are important items from activism in the 1960s and 1970s, for example, a list of demands during the Newark Rebellion.
