Aerial photograph of North and Central Wards
Aerial photograph of Newark Central and North Wards, documenting the area between South Orange Avenue to south and Park Avenue to north; Branch Brook Park to east and Fairmount Cemetery to west. Map predates the 1957 construction of Route 280. A thick band of red tape originally affixed to map indicated the proposed route of Route 280, still in planning at this time. The tape is now largely gone, but the remaining details of buildings and streets on map help reveal the densely built environment of an older Newark before white flight and the Rebellion of 1967.
    Aerial view of Downtown Newark
Aerial photograph of most of Downtown Newark with the future path of Route 280 indicated with bright red line. This map was created in preparation for the construction of this highway and the demolition of homes and businesses that impeded its path.
Aerial view of North and East Wards
Aerial photograph of the region between the North and East Wards of Newark and the adjoning town of East Orange. The Fairmount Cemetery and the Cemetery of the Holy Sepulchre are on right hand side of image. The Brick Church train station of the Lackawanna Railroad is in center of image. A tiny bit of the Montclair Boonton train line is in the upper left hand corner of the image. The area at the very center of this image is currently at the intersection of the Garden State Parkway and Route 280. This image was created as an aerial photograph in preparation for the demolition of homes and construction of highway.
